Perfect Pointe Wins Top Studio Award

Perfect Pointe Performing Arts Studio's Competition Team had outstanding performances in its first three competitions of the 2014 season.  At Groove Dance Competition in Chester, NJ Perfect Pointe won "The Groove Award", this is awarded to the studio with the top scoring dances of the competition. "Wow!! It was amazing to be recognized as the top studio", said Jessica Barlow, Director of P.P.P.A.S.  "All these dancers and teachers have worked so hard."  Also at Groove Isabella Sportelli finished first for her tap solo "Broadway Baby" in the 7-9 age division, Marcella Hill finished 5th. Lily Loewen was awarded 7th place for her Musical Theatre performance in the Junior division.  Also Katie Hannan was 10th in the Teen Division for her contemporary solo piece "Long Long Time Ago".  In the Duo/Trio division it was a clean sweep for Marcella Hill & Isabella Sportelli.  Their three routines placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  Perfect Pointe's Group routines also had strong finishes. "Choo Choo Cha Boogie" and "Butterfly Fly Away" choreographed by Dawn Klein placed first and second in the 6 & under division. In the Junior Division "Jump", a tap routine choreographed by Rebecca Mc Cormac finished 1st.  "Telephone Hour", "I've Got The Music In Me", and "Fly" placed 4th, 5th and 6th overall.  In the Teen Division "Mad Hatter"  finished 1st, "Ruby Blue" was 3rd and "Hanging By A Thread" was 10th.  The Senior Division placed "Diablo Rojo" 2nd, and "What Have You Done For Me Lately" 3rd. Perfect Pointe entered one dance "Played-A-Live" in the large group teen category and finished 2nd overall.

In March Perfect Pointe attended Beyond The Stars Dance Competition in Sparta  and New York City Dance Alliance in Philadelphia.  Some of the highlights at Beyond The Stars were Isabella Sportelli placing 1st for her tap solo and being named "Miss Mini Beyond The Stars".  In the 10-12 year old division Jenna Blandina's solo placed 3rd, Lily Loewen placed 8th, and Sarah Borino placed 9th.  In the 13-15 year old division Jordyn Fitzel's contemporary solo placed 10th.  In the 16 & Over division Rachel Good placed 9th. Other winning routines included group dances "Choo Choo Cha Boogie" placing 1st in the 6 & under category and "Butterfly Fly Away" finishing second.  In the 7-9 duo/trios Marcella Hill & Isabella Sportelli's tap routine finished 1st.  "Jump" placed 2nd in the 10-12 year old division and "I've Got the Music In Me" was 3rd.  "Mad Hatter" a Musical Theatre piece was 1st overall in the 13-15 year old category and "Played-A-Live" finished 2nd overall for large groups and was awarded "Ultimate Crowd Pleaser".  In the 16 & over category "Diablo Rojo" finished 2nd and "What Have You Done For Me Lately" was 4th, "Flaunt It" was 5th and "Go Your Own Way" finished 6th.

At New York City Dance Alliance Perfect Pointe won its third Critics Choice Award for its Musical Theatre routine "Telephone Hour" choreographed by Jessica Barlow. The routine also placed 2nd overall and was awarded outstanding musicality and outstanding showmanship.  "Played-A-Live" a large group tap placed 4th overall.  Also at NYCDA the dancers took part in workshops throughout the weekend.  Dancers were taught various routines from some of the top choreographers in the business and then auditions were held to choose outstanding dancers.  Jenna Blandina, Lily Loewen, and Isabella Sportelli were all finalists for the NYCDA outstanding dancer award.

One Injured in Two-Family House Fire in Newton
