Broadway legend Michele McConnell of Phantom of the Opera fame will teach a one-night-only Audition Tips Master Class open to all high school and middle school students. The class costs $10. (cash only) and runs 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 10, in the music room at Pope John XXIII High School, 28 Andover Road, Sparta, New Jersey.
“It is always a pleasure and a joy to work with aspiring young artists,” says McConnell. “No matter one’s age or skill set, there is always something new and fun to learn! I’m excited to offer tips and insights into auditioning and a career in the arts through this workshop. Skill sets developed in the arts, actually, can crossover to any career.”

A native of Indianapolis, Michele’s performance resume includes musical theatre, opera, concert performance, cabaret, professional choral work, and touring productions. Michele most recently appeared in 2019 with The Utah Symphony performing My Fair Lady in Concert, and with The Pacific Symphony performing The Music Man in Concert.
Michele proudly made her Broadway debut in The Phantom of the Opera. She started in the ensemble, and then took over the starring role of Carlotta for a record breaking 6 years. During her 7-1/2 years in Phantom, Michele was privileged to perform as Carlotta for the 10,000th Broadway performance as well as the 25th Anniversary performance. Michele also has the privileged distinction to be the longest running Carlotta in Broadway history, with over 2200 performances in the role to her credit.

In addition to her performance credits, Michele has an extensive masterclass and workshop resume. Michele maintains private voice studios in NYC & New Jersey. She has been a voice teacher in the adjunct faculty of the Musical Theatre Department at New Jersey City University since 2010. She has proudly taught with the Joffrey Ballet Summer Musical Theatre Intensive since its inception in 2015. Other notable workshop credits include: Manhattan School of Music, Bucknell University, Berklee School of Music, Mira Costa High School, and Butler University.
Michele actively serves as the President of the Board of Trustees for Skyline Theatre Company, Bergen County’s only professional theatre company. She had the distinction of being recognized in 2018 by the New Jersey Theatre Alliance for her “dedication to and impact on arts education”.
In addition, she has received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation (her high school alma mater in Indiana), and this Fall will accept the Robert Todd Duncan award from Butler University, which recognizes achievements bringing honor and distinction to the University.
Michele is a proud first generation Austrian-American, a proud graduate of Butler University, a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association, a proud 30-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a super-proud Mary Kay Independent Sales Director.
