STOCKHOLM, NJ – The New York Rangers together with Chase will be hosting an event on Saturday, Jan 17 beginning at 4 p.m. at Skyland’s Ice World. Rangers Alumni Ron Greschner and Chris Kotsopoulos will be at Skyland’s to sign autographs. They will also be collecting equipment donations to be given to local skaters in need.
The Rangers Community Crew and Alumni are going to be helping with the Skyland’s Kings U8 Player Jamboree. Four teams playing with the cross –ice boards in placefrom 4 until 5:15 p.m.
This event is part of the NY Rangers Assist initiative partnering with Chase to provide funds to refurbish local ice rinks and improve youth hockey experiences. This season they have donated $5,000 to Skyland’s for a new cross-ice boards system which will be on display at the event on Saturday.
Greschner, Kotsopoulos and the Rangers Road Crew will be accepting gently used skates, shin guards, elbow pads, gloves, pants and other gear. There is always an equipment bin in the lobby at Skyland’s, the Ranger Alumni will make it more special.
Also on that Saturday the Skyland’s Kings Coaches will be playing a charity game against the North Jersey Phoenix Women’s Ice Hockey collegiate team. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Monarchs.
The NJ Phoenix team call Skyland’s their home ice. The North Jersey Phoenix is a competitive collegiate ice hockey team comprised of college women who do not have the opportunity to play for their university. This is their second season, having been created by the goalie Lauren Solski, a student at Montclair University in 2013.
The Monarchs is a fundraising organization recently formed seeking to support youth hockey in Sussex County by providing increased access to hockey. The 501(c)(3) initiative is raising money to provide scholarships for children in need to have the opportunity to play hockey. They will be supporting skills and coaching clinics such as the Learn to Skate Programs. In addition, the initiative seeks to increase access to hockey for those with physical and developmental disabilities. This part of the initiative includes funding a Special Hockey program and provide sled hockey equipment for a Disabled Hockey program.
