SPARTA, NJ - On Nov 24, at approximately 8:38 p.m. a Hewitt, N.J. man was arrested after police were advised of an erratic driver on Glen Road. 

Sgt. Joseph Pensado located the vehicle in question, a 2000 Chevy Impala stopped in the middle of the intersection of Glen Road and Main Street.  After making independent observations of erratic operation, the vehicle was stopped on Sparta Avenue.  The operator, 35 year-old John J. McHugh was arrested after he failed Field Sobriety Tests. 

McHugh was transported to Headquarters for processing and breath testing.  He was also given a Drug Recognition Evaluation by a certified Drug Recognition Expert.  He was later transported to the hospital after the Drug Recognition Expert determined it was necessary. 

McHugh was charged with Hindering/Providing False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer, DWI, Failure to Keep Right, Suspended Driver, Failure to Exhibit Documents, Unregistered Vehicle, Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Improper Use of Plates pending a court date.  Cpl. Adam Carbery and Cpl. Brian Hassloch assisted in the investigation.
