Sparta Township continues to be a target for residential burglars.  Since January 12, 2012, 18-forced-entries into homes have been committed.  Of those 18 Burglaries, the Detective Bureau has closed out nine of them with arrests.  The remaining ones are still being actively investigated and additional arrests are anticipated.

The latest two Burglaries were committed in late September and early last night.  On September 21st   at 5:05 pm, Patrol Officers were dispatched to a residence in the #400 block of Glen Road.  Point of entry was through the locked front door.  One bedroom was ransacked.  Jewelry and electronic equipment was stolen from the room.  The value is not being released at this time.

Last night a home on Cheyenne Trail was also Burglarized.  The homeowner reported that she left the home at approximately 6:00 pm and returned at 10:00 pm.  The locked front door had been kicked in and splintered. Several rooms in the home had been ransacked. An undetermined amount of jewelry is reported missing.  The homeowner is still inventorying her valuables.  Det. Sgt. John Schanstra and Det. Terrence Mulligan are investigating.

Most of these 18 Burglaries are not connected and were perpetrated by different individuals and groups. The incidents are not occurring in one particular neighborhood but all over town.  The Sparta Police are urging their residents to always be vigilant and aware as to who is walking in your neighborhood or is parked on your street.  If you see or hear something suspicious please call 9-1-1 immediately.  If you have any information on any criminal activity please call the Sparta Police Detective Bureau at (973) 729-3017.
