SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta Woman's Club will have a general meeting on Wednesday, October 7 to be held at Lake Mohawk Country Club at noon. This month two retired military women will talk about their experiences in the military.
Lt. Colonel Susan Foy, daughter of Karl and Gudeun of Sparta, who recently retired from the U.S. Air Force will speak of her 24 years of experience as a pilot. Susan is a 1987 graduate of Sparta HS and graduated from U.S. Air Force Academy in 1991 with a B.S. in Engineering. She advanced her career through the years eventually becoming an instructor and evaluator pilot. Susan was prestigiously assigned to fly special air-lift missions on the Air Force II C-32A transporting the nation's leaders including the Vice President, Secretary of State, First Lady, Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She resides in Virginia and we are very pleased to have her travel to join us.
Captain Christina Martin, U.S. Army served active duty for five years with two tours of deployment to Iraq. She served in the Army Reserve for 3 years and is currently considered IRR-Individual Ready Reserve, available to be called when needed. Christina lives on base at Picatinny Arsenal. She will speak of her military experiences as a woman serving in the Army and what it is like living on a nearby base.
The Sparta Woman's Club is actively seeking new members. SWC welcomes women from many townships in nearby counties. The SWC has many special interest groups including Circle of Tarns (knitting & crocheting and no experience needed), Daytime and Evening Book Clubs, Film Discussion, Mah Jongg, Arts Creative, Garden and Conservation and Out to Lunch Bunch. The special interest groups' meeting days/time vary by group.
