SPARTA, NJ - Santa capped off a busy weekend with a visit to Station Park on Sunday, arriving by fire truck to the delight of the waiting children.  The popular annual event drew nearly 100 families with approximately 150 children having their picture taken with Santa.

The event was presented by the Sparta Recreation Department and the Sparta Recreation Advisory Committee, as they have done for more than 25 years.  This year the Sparta Kiwanis Club, the Sparta Middle School Community Service Club and the Sparta High School key club all pitched in to make the day a success.

An ensemble of musicians from Sparta High School provided atmosphere for those in attendance.  In addition to the big man in the red suit, there were snacks and games for the children.  They were able to explore the fire truck and police cars in the parking lot. Food was also collected for the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry.

“The Holiday Festival and Visit with Santa is a wonderful way for families to ring in the holiday season,” Sparta Recreation Department Program Supervisor Donna Jenkins said.
