SPARTA, NJ — It will be a crowded ballot for the Sparta Board of Education election in November. This year six candidates have submitted petitions to run for three seats, each for a three-year term.
Two candidates took advantage of the new option to file petitions jointly allowing them to appear bracketed on the ballot.
Kathryn Matteson and Jennifer Grana filed jointly. Both are parents of children in the district and have been advocating for the students at board of education meetings throughout the year.
Karen Scott and Jennifer Hamilton are both incumbents. Hamilton was appointed after Scott resigned from the board in February. Scott was then appointed to the uncompleted term of Linda Curcio when Curcio resigned in June.
Vanessa Serrano and Christian Arnold round out the ballot. Dr. Serrano is listed as a Vice Principal at Paterson Public School 2 on their district website. Arnold retired from Sparta Middle School where he was a music teacher.
