Sparta Area Students Receive Accolades at College

SPARTA, NJ – Several Sparta area students have earned recognition for the academic achievements at their colleges and universities for the fall 2016 semester.

Connor James Klein, a sophomore at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY received the Cecile and Herman Lieberman Endowed Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year.  Klein is pursuing a degree in Computer Science.

Adam Langiahr graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC on Dec 16, 2016.

Kalin Hagedorn and Laura Leggiero have earned dean’s list recognition at Belmont University for the fall 2016 semester.  They had to have earned a minimum of 3.5 GPA.

Austin Henderson was named to the President’s List at the State University of New York at Potsdam for the fall 2016 semester.  Henderson had to have achieved a GPA of at least 3.5.

Kutztown University announced Kathleen Cannon, Madison Colaco, Nicole Gerardiello and Rachel Tarnopoli were named to the dean’s list.  They had to have earned a minimum of 3.60 GPA.

Bucknell University in Lewisville, PA, announced Luke Giugliano and Katelyn McAndris earned dean’s list recognition for having achieved a GPA of at least 3.5.

Katherina Kapur and Christine Ognibene have been named to the dean’s list at York College of Pennsylvania.  Kapur majoring in Behavioral Science and Ognieben majoring in Graphic Design had to earn a GPA of at least 3.50.

Brianne Eisnecker and Ethan Schultz have earned a place on the dean’s list at Lebanon Valley College. Eisnecker is pursuing a bachelor of science in early childhood education and special education.  Schultz is pursuing a bachelor of science in psychology.

The University at Albany has named Daniel Warhol to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester. 

Madeline Seeland has been named to the Wheaton College dean’s list. 

The University of Rhode Island has named Joelle Gratkowski, Allison Rose Heeney, Alec Hopper and Sophia Rose Theilacker to the dean’s list.  Gratkowski is studying Industrial and Systems Engineering.  Heeney is pursuing a bachelor of science in business.  Hopper is majoring in Pharmacology.  Theilacker is majoring in Wildlife Conservation Biology. 

James Madison University announces Sydney Linda Nolan has been named to the President’s List with a GPA of at least 3.90.  Nolan is pursuing a degree in psychology. Melissa Schlomann and Genevieve McDonough have been named to the dean’s list with a minimum GPA of 3.5.  Schlomann is majoring in communication studies.  McDonough is majoring in hospitality management.

Ithaca College has announced Maya Drummond was honored with Peggy R Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership.  The college says this award recognizes students who “excel academically, perform service to the college community and nation, and represent an exemplary level of accomplishment.”

Sparta Police: Car Crash Leads to Warrant Arrest

SPARTA, NJ –  A car going too fast for the snowy road conditions crashed on Route 15.  No one was injured in the one car crash but the driver, Melvin Pineda-Castro of Plainfield, 27, was taken into custody.  On March 13 around 6:30 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Ben Griffin arrived at the scene, according to police.
