SPARTA, NJ - Families, friends, neighbors, organizations and corporations joined together on April 18 to participate in the 2015 Sparta Bag It Day.  It was an absolutely gorgeous, Spring day.

Sparta Bag It Day helps celebrate the spirit of community and the beauty of Sparta.

Thomas Ryan from Laddey, Clark and Ryan said, “What a great day for Sparta and for Laddey, Clark and Ryan. We had a big turnout of staff, attorneys and their families. The little kids are the best.  Add that to such a beautiful morning and it is hard not to have a great day. The ramp off of Route 15 is one of the most travelled entry ways to Sparta. We are very proud we made that entry way look a lot nicer. We look forward to being a part of this important effort every year. It certainly would be exciting if every Sparta business and every Sparta resident joined us for just one or two hours to pick up trash. Imagine the impact of that effort.”

Doug Radford and his many neighbors participated.  Doug said, "It couldn’t have asked for a nicer day."

"I want to thank all the volunteers for helping to keep Sparta a beautiful place to live. I would especially like to thank Mitch Morrison for keeping this program going strong. It is a great program and shows what kind of people live in Sparta," said Councilman GIl GIbbs.

Mitch Morrison, who helps organize Sparta Bag It Day, said, "We celebrated Sparta Bag It Day on April 18 in advance of Earth Day which takes place on Wednesday, April 22.  I am old enough to remember the first Earth Day in 1970 and it made a huge impression on me.  Now more than a billion people worldwide celebrate Earth Day with festivals, events and programs. I am very excited to see our community gardens, our farmers market and our public commitment to improving our lives, the lives of our children and the lives of our grandchildren."

Additional participants for the Spring 2015 clean up included The Nicholson family, Gil Gibbs, the Cerra family, the Tartaglia family, the Opresnick family, Miriam Tower, the Putnam family, Bruce Murphu, the Masterson family and the Junior Women's Club of Sparta.
