SPARTA, NJ - Sparta baseball shut out North Warren, 7-0, in the first round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament.

Ronan Jarvis and Matt Guerra combined to pitch the shut out for Sparta. Jarvis pitched five innings and struck out five batters to get the win. Guerra finished off the game with a strong two inning outing with two strikeouts.

Jake Zerillo had three hits in four at bats. He had two stolen bases, one RBI and one run scored. Dan Johnson had two hits and reached base a third time on a hit by pitch. He scored twice. Eric Castorina had two RBIs. Jack Kulik and Mike Nauta had a hit each.

Sparta scored three runs in the third and sixth innings to pull away from North Warren. Sparta had nine hits in what turned out to be a comfortable start to the county tournament. 

Sparta will play Newton next on Saturday. They are 4-4 on the season.
