SPARTA, NJ - Sparta High School baseball team came out on top with a 2-1 victory over Pope John on Wednesday.
Kevin Foulds had a big game on the mound, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He faced just 25 batters and threw only 94 pitches. Foulds struck out five and walked two and allowed only three hits, bringing his record to 3-1 for the season.
Austin Unglaub went 3-for-4 while TJ Estanisalu and Foulds were .500 for the day. Estanisalu and Dillon Mendel each earned an RBI. Ethan Collins was on the mound for Pope John.
Sparta is now 7-4 and will go to Mount Olive on Thursday afternoon.
Sparta Softball lost to Pope John in extra innings at home, by a score of 2-0. Kim Puccio pitched a good game for Sparta with 16 strikeouts and allowing only four hits over 11 innings.
Sparta Softball is now 7-5. They will face Mount Olive at home on Thursday at 4 p.m.
