SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School baseball lost to Pope John 3-1 on Friday. The game was a 0-0 tie into the seventh.
Matt Sigillo was the only Spartan to cross the plate with a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh.
Sigillo’s homer came after Pope John’s Kevin Putsky hit a three run home run at the top of the seventh.
Ronan Jarvis and Sebastian Jerome were on the mound for Sparta. Jarvis held the Lions scoreless, going five and a third innings allowing only two hits and three walks, striking out seven. Jerome pitched one and two thirds innings allowing four hits, three runs, striking out one.
Sparta’s season record stands at 9-11.
