JEFFERSON, NJ - After giving up five runs in the first inning, Sparta's baseball team battled back before once again conceding in the final inning Monday against Jefferson. The final score was 8-7.
Ronan Jarvis had three singles, a run and an RBI in the game for Sparta, who have had three consecutive close games but fell short in two of them. Sparta scored four runs in the top of the second after giving up five in the first. They then scored three in the top of the sixth to take the lead before giving up the tying runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Thomas Ferrera, Mike Vocaturo and Matt Guerra each had two hits and an RBI. Sebastian Jerome came in relief and gave Sparta a much needed five innings while only giving up two runs. He stabilized the team and gave them a chance to come back.
Sparta is now 6-8 on the season. They play Mount Olive on Wednesday.
