SPARTA, NJ - Connor Dick pitched a complete game and gave up just one run to get Sparta on the good side of a 2-1 win on Friday against Parsippany Hills.
Dick gave up just two hits and the one run was unearned after an error led to Parsippany Hills getting the run across.
Mike Vocaturo and Jack Kulik hit back to back doubles and each scored to give Sparta the two runs they needed to win.
After losing to Pope John late in the game Thursday, it showed the experience of the team to not make the mistakes that could lead to a similar result. Instead, they had timely hits and a great pitching performance and when you add those two together, you get a victory.
In the game against Pope John Ronan Jarvis' complete game was not enough for the Sparta baseball team as they lost to cross-town rivals, Pope John, 2-1. Pope John took the lead in the seventh inning to defeat the Spartans.
Jarvis gave up eight hits but was able to work out of trouble with his five strikeouts. He also singled once in his three at bats. Chris Murray had two hits while Jack Kulik drove in the only run.
Eric Castorina, Matt Guerra and Dan Johnson also singled as part of Sparta's seven hits.
Pope John's Justin Provost had two hits including a triple and a RBI in the win. Joe Millar added three hits that included a double.
Sparta is now 5-7 on the season. They are back on the diamond Monday against Vernon.
