SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday, losing to Newton in the morning, 3-2, and beating Minisink Valley, 8-3 later in the day.
In the first game against Newton it was Jarett DiBlasio who put Sparta on the board second inning with two RBIs. The game remained at a 2-2 tie until the eighth inning, when Newton’s Scott Price was able to knock in Chase Cramer.
Cole Patten pitched five innings for Sparta getting five strikeouts, giving up seven hits and one walk. Connor Dick was on the hill for three innings against the Braves getting a strikeout and fiving up three hits.
In the second game Jarett DiBlasio got the win with four innings on the mound. He had one strike out and two walks. Ethan Guerra closed out the game with three scoreless innings including two strike outs.
Cole Patten went 4 for 4 with two doubles, two singles and two RBIs. Jack Kulik, going 2 for 4, got two singles and an RBI.
Ronan Jarvis went 2 for 2 with two singles and three RBIs. Eugene Jerome also got 2 for 4 with two singles.
Sparta’s record stands at 5-2-1 facing Delbarton on Monday.
