SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Board of Education approved a new Business Administrator/Board Secretary at the May 1 meeting. In a unanimous vote Pamela Hinman was given the nod to take the office currently held by interim Anthony Mistretta.
Hinman will being on July 1, or sooner if she is released from her current contract according to the agenda. Her contract in Sparta is for $145,000 for the 2017-2018 school year.
Hinman is currently serving as the Business Administrator for the Hackensack school district. Previous to that, she was in the same position in West Essex Regional school district for nearly three years. Hinman's first job as a School Business Administrator was in Wharton for nearly four years.
Hinman received her Masters of Business Administration from Seton Hall University and her Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of North Texas. She resides in Andover and “was a Sparta High School graduate,” Superintendent Michael Rossi said.
A number of other personnel items were on the agenda as well.
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum Dr. Daniel Johnson’s annual contract was renewed at the meeting. Both Johnson and Sparta High School Principal Janet Ferraro received tenure. The Board of Education also granted tenure to eligible district staff members.
Third grade teacher Kim Bambara is retiring after serving the district for 25 years. Sparta Middle School social studies teacher Carole Sobiechowski is retiring after 22 years of teaching in Sparta.
Steven Stoner was officially named Athletic Director/Director of Student Activities. Stoner has been the acting Athletic Director since school began in September.
Steven Schels was named Vice Principal taking the job left vacant by Stoner. Schels has also been serving in that capacity since September.
The next board of education meeting is scheduled for May 22 at 7:30 in the auditorium of Mohawk Avenue School.
