SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Board of Education said good-bye to interim Business Administrator Anthony Mistretta on Monday night. The regular meeting was his last before newly hired Pamela Hinman takes the position.
Mistretta came to Sparta after serving in Pequannock as an interim. He filled the vacancy in Sparta left by Barbara Decker who left the district in January 2017.
“Thank you for allowing me to work here for the past six months,” Mistretta said after his report to the board.
As the meeting was coming to a close, board Vice President Jack Surdoval said, “I want to thank Tony,” explaining MIstretta had “come in at the same time as a new superintendent” and in the middle of the budget process.
“To say you were drinking from a fire hose would be an understatement,” Surdoval said. “Thank you for handling a tough job and for your assistance.”
Hinman begins her new job on July 1, coming to Sparta from the Hackensack school district.
Also in his report, Mistretta announced the July 31 deadline for filing a petition to be on the November ballot for the Sparta Board of Education. Mistretta said three 3-year seats will be on the ballot. It is unclear at this time if any of the incumbents will be seeking re-election.
Petitions must be turned into the Sussex County Clerks office t 83 Spring Street, Suite 304 in Newton by 4 p.m. to be included on the November 3 ballot. Link to the petition.
