SPARTA, NJ- Sparta High School boys basketball came up short in their against Pope John 66-50. The Spartans played their last home game on Wednesday in a packed gymnasium.
Jack Cavanaugh led the Spartan effort putting up 20 points including 12 from 3-point range and four successful free throws. Cavanaugh has lifted the team all season with 342 points; 82 field goals, 38 three-pointers and 64 free-throws. He is also credited with 55 assists, 29 steals and. 76 rebounds
Jake Vreeland added 11 to the total with nine from under the net, a three pointer and a pair of free throws. Vreeland has 221 points for the season; 81 field goals, eight three-pointers and 35 free-throws. He is credited with 17 assists and 79 rebounds.
Cole Miller and Thomas Ferrera each contributed five and Zach Amirati put up four points.
Sparta’s game gained momentum as it went on but they ran out of time. The Lyons had three with double digit scores; Aaron Clarke with 20, Eddie Davis with 19 and Marcus Hopkins with 15.
Sparta boys have put together a 15-7 record for the season so far. They will play at Bloomfield on Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
