SPARTA, NJ - Sparta's season ends in disappointing fashion as the team loses to Bergenfield, 50-39. Bergenfield hit 11 threes that put Sparta too far behind to even try and stage a comeback.

While the loss does end his high school career, Nick Lucas had to be scraped off the court. He gave it his all. He had a team high 14 points and four rebounds. Lucas and sophomore Dante Joefield were attacking from the beginning. Joefield had 12 points.

Sparta struggled from the free throw line in the beginning. They started 0-5 from the line, including four misses from Joefield. With those empty trips, Bergenfield hit three pointers. Alijah Gonslaves hit two three pointers for a total of 15 points.

Sparta really missed senior and leader Devon McIntyre. He did all the dirty work well. He kept the team together defensively while getting rebounds to help escape the defensive end.

This loss effectively ends the high school career of Lucas, McIntyre, Jack Simon, Danny Smith, Terrell Smith, Rich McDonald, Jordan Tryzinski, Ben Melville and Kyle Ruben.

The Sparta fans had turned out decked out in white to show their support and cheered them for their efforts.
