SPARTA, NJ – The boys lacrosse won a close one on Saturday against Kinnelon 11-10. Jesse West led the Sparta team with four goals and three assists. Goalie Reed McCall kept them in the game with 17 saves.
Russell Eberding won 13 of 23 faceoffs and grabbed nine ground balls.
The Spartans came out strong with five goals in the first quarter to the Colts’ two. They stayed neck and neck as the game went on with Kinnelon surging in the final quarter netting four to Sparta’s two.
It would not be enough, however and Sparta took the win on Senior Day.
Stelios Kroudis had two goals and Luke Bushey, Austin Castorina, Beck Gozdenvich, Evan Johnson and Patrick Milliken each contributed one.
Defensively Justin Brick and Michael Candeloro picked up three ground balls. Brendan Cina, Castorina, Gozdenovich each had two.
Sparta moves to 3-6 for the season. They travel to Westfield on Wednesday.
