SPARTA, NJ – It was a scrappy game for the Sparta High School boys soccer team on Wednesday when they hosted Mount Olive. There was a lot of give and take and even a little rain, but Sparta ended up on top with a final score of 2-1.
Sparta’s tie-breaking goal came from Luke Gasper-Markel moments after he was subbed in. Out front down field in a two on two breakaway, the goalie underestimated Gasper-Markel and came out to grab the ball. Instead, the Spartan blew past and found the empty net.
Gianluca Bivona made the first goal in the first period. Phil Christodoulou had the assist on both scores. The Marauders had six shots stopped by Alban Ukaj in net for Sparta.
The boys are now 3-0 and will be hosting Morris Hills on Monday.
