SPARTA, NJ - Sparta boys tennis won their first match of the 2017 season on Monday against Morris Hills, 5-0.

First singles Nick Matkiwsky keeps his successful start of the season going as he defeated Vikranth Chinnthareddy 6-0, 6-0. James Wang also won is straight sets.

Sparta has had success with their first two singles players through the first four matches. Coach Mike Wille has said that their season will be determined on how the third singles and the two doubles teams perform. After Matkiwsky and Wang won easily against Mount Olive on Friday, no other player won a match and only the second doubles won a set.

Monday was different for Sparta, though. Jared DeLeu won quite easily, 6-2, 6-3. First doubles partners Ben Curras and Brett Halkyard won their match, 6-4, 6-4. Second doubles partners Connor Smetana and Evan Silberstien won their match, 6-4, 7-5. 

Sparta looks to build on their first win when the play Randolph on Tuesday at home. Sparta is 1-4 on the season.
