SPARTA, NJ - Sparta Township Council appointed William Close to the position of Township Manager at the council meeting on Tuesday. It was unanamously approved with a 4-0 vote. John Schon was not present.
Close is expected to begin on March 17. He will begin at an annual salary of $155,000. After a three-month trial period, that will likely increase to $160,000.
"We are thrilled, very excited to have Mr. Close coming to Sparta as the new Township Manager," expressed Mayor Molly Whilesmith.
Currently holding the title of Business Administrator in Dover, Close brings 30 years experience to the position. He has also recently served as Chairman of New Jersey Sustainable Energy Meeting.
Close received his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Public Administration from North Carolina State University.
Steven Levinson has been serving as interim township manager since David Troast left Sparta in a much-publicized separation in August 2013.
