SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Diamonds Softball program had another successful season this fall, culminating in a week-end of tournament wins. They started with the Fall Softball playoffs on Saturday, Oct 24 for all age groups 10U through 16U.
Both the 10A and 12A Sparta Diamond teams earned the fall titles, in a grueling tournament that required three wins in one day to get the top spot.
Joe Jacobs, who heads up the Sparta Diamond travel program said, “Only two teams, an A and a B at each age level, can end the year with a win. I am so proud of the girls from both teams who played their hearts out.”
Coach Heim of the 10A team said, “The girls played their best softball of the year, down the stretch getting stellar pitching and big hits when they needed them to beat the Rockaway Rampage.”
The 12A Diamonds added to their 2015 trophy collection by grinding out a 1-0 win in the semifinals and dominating the NJ Vipers club team 6-1 in the finals.
On Sunday, they were back at it again. The girls competed in the challenging Vernon Halloween Tournament against top town and club from New York and New Jersey. This one day tournament required four wins to earn the title. The 12A Diamonds played their way all the way to the finals.
“Their never give up attitude was on display in front of the raucous crowd,” said Coach Hannam.
The 12s jumped out early but then gave up the lead, trailing by three runs heading into their last at bat. The girls rallied together and put four runs on the board to secure a 9-8 victory over the Dutchess NY Debs club team.
Hannum said, “What a game, what a team, what a season.”
Diamonds Trustee Jason Villar said, “The Sparta Diamonds program would like to thank all of their supporters, sponsors, parents, friends and coaches for a great 2015 season. Spring 2016 preparations are underway and the girls are already anxious to get back on the field and shine like diamonds.”
