SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta Education Foundation held its fourth annual Wine and Craft Beer Tasting & Food Pairing fundraiser on Sunday, September 18, which was graciously hosted by Tom and Kylen Anderson. In spite of the threat of rainy weather, a record number of supporters attended this year’s event which featured an assortment of gourmet food specially selected to pair with the wine and craft beer.

“This year’s wine tasting event drew a record crowd,” said Danielle Dykstra, President of the SEF. “The festive atmosphere started when the guests were greeted with sparkling wine as they checked in. A specialty cocktail and silent auction barrel item were big hits. The crowd enjoyed a wide variety of wines and beers to taste and delicious treats to pair them with along with the opportunity to win raffle items that included wine baskets. This was the result of the creativity of our generous sponsors: The Liquor Factory in Sparta, Opici Family Distributors, Opici Wines, Constellation Distributors, and KRAVE Café & Caterers. We are grateful for their generous support of this event.”

Another part of the afternoon’s festivities occurred when the SEF’s Dragon Boat Festival Winner’s Paddle was passed from the 2015 winning team, The Puff Dragons, to the 2016 winners, Sparta Station Athletics A. This presentation was made by Dragon Boat Festival Co-Chairs Doug Layman and Nancy Purnell.

Since 2006, the SEF has donated over $760,000 to fund grants and educational programs at all five of Sparta’s public schools. Recent grants include a predator and shark aquarium, over 280 Chromebooks and kinesthetic classroom furniture at Sparta High School; Sphero robotic balls at Helen Morgan School; a Yamaha electric piano at Mohawk Avenue School and 25 iPads for Alpine School. The SEF strengthens the public schools, supports teachers and inspires students. The Foundation is an independent, non-profit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to engage the entire community in philanthropic giving.
