SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta Elks Lodge #2356 was honored at the Sparta Township Council meeting on Tuesday night by proclamation. Exalted Ruler John Considine and Trustee Anthony Alfonso were there as Mayor Christine Quinn read the proclamation congratulating the Sparta Elks Lodge on their 50 anniversary.
The organization continues to support children and veterans through their many various programs. The annually distribute scholarships for high school students and for special needs children to attend Camp Moore. They also support veterans through their Army of Hope efforts.
"Thanks to the town council and the mayor for this honor," Alfonso said. He reviewed some of the Elks lodge initiatives and asked the community to continue to help with their fundraising efforts. "Support us, come to a dance or an event at the lodge where we have just redone the boardwalk room. We plan to be here for another 50 years."
"Its our privilege to have you in our community," Quinn said.
On Saturday, Oct 15 the Elks are inviting the community to join them in celebration of their golden anniversary with a dinner dance at the lodge on the boardwalk. The cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 7 p.m. for $40 per person.
Patrick Fitzsimons will perform at the Elks Lodge on Oct 22 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Birthday Show 2016 will include music by Fitzsimmons along with local favorites Loni Bach, Geoff Doubleday, Tom Askin, Paul Kuzik, Denny Tilton, Damian Calcagne and Bobby Syvarth. Tickets for that event are $25 with proceeds going to benefit Elks Charities.
On Saturday, October 30 the Elks and Sparta VFW Post 7248 are joining together to hold their annual Military Truck Pull Competition and Family Picnic for fundraising, fun competition and food. Adult teams of 10 are invited to compete for $20 per person, child teams of 10 for $10 per child. People need not compete to join the fun. For $15 adults can enjoy the picnic, $5 for children.
The picnic will include hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, soda and coffee. All benefits will benefit local wounded warriors and the families of the fallen heroes.
The Elks also have events scheduled for November at the lodge and with the Sparta Chapter of Knights of Columbus.
