FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ – The Sparta High School 2017 football season has come to a close, ending in the NJSIAA North 1 Group 3 semi-final round with a 21-14 loss to Ramapo.
Playing in Bergen county on Friday night the Spartans were held scoreless until the second half. Fourth ranked Sparta left the field at halftime down 14-0.
Sparta closed in by the fourth quarter. Sparta Quarterback Anthony Broccoletti scored on a short run and then grabbed a pass from Will Cisko for two extra points to get within seven with just less than three minutes left on the game clock. That was as close as they would get.
The top seeded Green Raiders had made some big plays in the first half including taking advantage of a Spartan fumble in the second quarter. The Spartan offense, averaging nearly 35 points per game all season were held to two second-half touchdowns.
Sparta ends their season with a record of 9-2 and 6-0 in their division.
