SPARTA, NJ – Another beautiful fall day provided the perfect backdrop to the Sparta High School field hockey game on Wednesday where they celebrated the graduating senior players. 

Before the celebration they had to play the game where Sparta dominated over Morris Hills with a final score of 6-0. After a bit of a slow start, five Spartans were able to find the net. Gretchen Bowie led the team with two goals.  Isabella Candeloro, Rhett Curran, Kelly Marin and Jackie Hallack each got one.

Rhett Curran contributed with two assists.  Candeloro, Hallack and Holly DeCataldo also earned an assist.

Courtney McKenna fended off the only shot on goal from Morris Hills for the shutout. 

After the game the underclassmen formed an arch with their sticks for the seniors to run under as their names were called.  After pausing for a photo they received flowers and more photos.  They would have a pizza and cake party after the JV played their game.

SPARTA, NJ – A man speeding on Route 15 faces drug charges despite having a medical marijuana card.  Muhammad Khan, 26, of Valley Stream, New York was stopped by Police Officer Erick Finley driving his red Lexus SUV 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, police report.

One Injured in Two-Family House Fire in Newton

NEWTON, NJ—One man was injured, while three others escaped unharmed when a two-family two story apartment house caught fire on Saturday.  On January 27 at around 6:26 a.m. Newton Police received a 9-1-1 call from a passerby reporting a house on fire.
