SPARTA, NJ – What a difference a week makes. After a fourth quarter loss to Roxbury last Saturday, Sparta defeated Chatham for their second home game 48-0. Sparta stayed steady behind Quarterback Anthony Argula. In the first half they scored on nearly every drive, despite a few line of scrimmage penalties, a dropped snap and what appeared to be an early whistle that called back six points.
Sparta was able to make it work in the air and on the ground. Argula’s passes connected with six different receivers. He threw successfully to Teddy Fischer and Dean Gennat six times each and got four to Lucas Faria. Matthew Freeman, Ritchie McDonald and Tyler Trzcinski each caught one. Three of Gennat’s catches were for touchdowns. Freeman ran one in as well.
On the ground, Faria had 133 yards rushing for two touchdowns.
Fischer added three points with a field goal.
Sparta’s record is even at 1-1. They will play in Montville on Sept 26 at 7 p.m.
