SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta girls basketball team got a win at home on Tuesday, beating Hackettstown 52-39. It was a team effort with nine Spartans putting points on the board.
The team was led by Emily Dilger with five 2-pointers and three free throws for 13 points. Beth Laing had two 2-pointers, one 3-pointer and three free throws, adding 11 points. Laing was followed closely by Erin Walsh with 10 points. Walsh had three 2-pointers and four free throws.
Tatianan Esteva-Ingram contributed five with three free throws. Jackie Dowd had four points. Carly Seeland had one from three-point range. Marirose Fischer, Hope Nafis and Brianna Falco each added two points.
"Yesterday's win over Hackettstown was a great team win for our program," Head Coach Catherine Wille said. "Every player on the bench contributed to come back from a first half deficit."
The team is looking forward to playing Morris Knolls on Thursday according to Wille . "This is the first, and hopefully annual girls tournament at SHS," Wille said. The game begins at 2 p.m.
This is Sparta’s second win, having beaten Randolph on the road 35-24 to open their season. They lost their home opener to Morristown 49-34.
