SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta girls basketball took down Pope John 71-37 Friday on the Lion’s court.  The Spartans crushed the Lions, who gave Sparta their only defeat of the season in the previous matchup.

Brynn McCurry moved past the 200-point mark in the game.  She was unstoppable with 28 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.  She had two blocks and a steal.  McCurry dropped in 10 2-pointers and five from the foul line.

Ally Sweeney added 16 points with three from downtown and three from the foul line.  She had 2 2-pointers.  Sweeney pulled down eight points, had seven assists and a block.

Bailey Chapman rounded out the double digit scorers with 11; three 3-pointers and a 2-point shot.

Mason Munier, Alexa Acker, Olivia Bouma-Hannam and Ella Collinsall all contributed points to the win.

Sparta doubled Pope John’s score in the first quarter 20-10. The Spartans put up another 20 before halftime holding the Lions to just nine for a score of 40-19 as they went into the locker room .  Pope John was held to nine for each of the two remaining quarters.

The girls have put together a 12-1 record.  They will host West Morris on Monday at 4 p.m.
