SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta girls lacrosse team earned their fourth win as they put 23 goals on Roxbury. The Lady Spartans proved that depth is the most important factor of their team as nine different players scored goals.
Jacqui Hallack and Kaitlyn Mead each had huge games, scoring six goals. Goal scoring was not the only contribution made by those players. Hallack had an assist and Mead won nine face-offs. Arguably the best statistic that a box score can show is the number of players contributing in the game.
While Mead is the big goal scorer and can possibly lead the team to victory in every game, the fact that any player can step up into the second spot is important. On this day, it was Hallack.
In addition to Hallack and Mead, the other six goals were scored by six different players. And five of those players added an assist. Julianne McGuire had a full box score with a goal, an assist and eight face-off wins.
This is a sign of a successful team ready to go on a run but offense is only half of the game. Goalie Madison Levinson had five saves. The Lady Spartans used a huge first half to spark their win. Strong starts allow the team to just play their game.
Sparta improves to 4-1 and will take on Pope John on Thursday.
