SPARTA, NJ – It was a battle in the cold and wind on Sparta High School’s Veterans’ field. Sparta girls’ lacrosse took on Ramapo on Tuesday and came up just short, losing 13-12 in overtime.
They started out with a 4-1 lead early in the first but Ramapo fought back to close the gap. Sparta did not let them go too far, however ending the first half with an 8-4 lead.
Ramapo managed to flip that score in the second half finding the net eight times to Sparta’s four. It was 12-12 at the end of regular play. Ramapo celebrated a milestone 200 goals for Danielle VanCalcar who had five for the game.
Sparta’s Kaitlin Mead scored four goals, Julianna McGuire had three with Alex Curran and Jackie Hallack each finding the net twice. Hallack and Bayleigh Takacs each contributed with an assist as well.
Madison Levinson was in net with 12 saves.
Sparta is currently ranked 13 in the NJ.com top 20 with a 2-2 record and a total of 45 goal in four games. The Lady Spartan’s host West Morris on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
