SPARTA, NJ – The Lady Spartan’s are going strong as the reach the end of the season, highly ranked in all three tournaments. 

They are going to the finals in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament for the first time in the history of Sparta High School girls’ soccer.  They won the tri county Semi-Final round on Saturday, beating North Hunterdon 2-1.  They play the final game in neutral territory on Saturday at Warren Hills.  The game will start at 3:30. 

The win in the H/W/S semi-final round came on goals from Kelly Carolan and Cayleigh Glew.  They were assisted by Daniella Montesano and Taylor Nolan.  Keeper Julia Flake stopped eight for the win.

The girls are ranked number one in the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference American League with an overall record of 15-3 and a league record of 6-1.  They play Morris Hills on Thursday for the NJAC Conference title.  Morris Hills also has a league record of 6-1 with an overall record of 11-5-2.  Sparta beat Morris Hills 4-3 earlier in the season. 

The girls have also secured a third seed ranking for the NJSIAA North 1 Group 3 tournament after defeating Vernon on Tuesday 6-1.  They start the state tournament bracket facing Leonia, ranked 14 on Monday at home.  They play that game on their home field at Station Park with a 2 p.m. start.

The goal leaders for the team are Kelly Carolan with 12 goals, Taylor Nolan and Cayleigh Glew with 10 each.  Daniella Montesano leads the team for assists with 12.  Taylor Nolan is second with nine and Kaitlin Mead rounds the top three with eight assists.

Sparta’s goalies have shared time in the net.  Julia Flake has been credited with 114 saves.  Lia Gaccione has stopped 50 shots.
