SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Girls Softball is saying goodbye to winter and hello to softball season.  They kicked off their season with the second annual bowling fundraiser at Sparta Lanes last Saturday.  Spread out over 32 lanes, bowlers, family and friends numbered more than 500, leaving organizers to call the event a success.

“The place was packed,” according to a program organizer.

The fun was not limited to the lanes. Activities included prize giveaways, laser light show and music by the house DJ.  Unlike softball, “in bowling strikes are good,” an attendee said.

“We put this event together in order to raise money for the program, but what it does is to bring our softball family together for a good time,” Sparta Softball board member, event organizer Dawn Lengen said.

The evening was more than a fundraiser.  It was a way to bring together all levels of participants including Recreation, Travel and Club organizers said.

“A night like this is the perfect way to get to know people and support the young ladies who give their all to the game,” Lengen said.

The event does “immeasurable good in promoting Sparta Girls Softball as an inclusive environment and family first organization,” Lengen said.  Many former players go on to play in high school and college according to program organizers.

SGS recently revamped their winter workout facility nicknamed “The Diamond Mine”, where the girls have been honing their skills in anticipation of the Spring.

“Our Rec program is abundant with girls who love to compete and enjoy playing neighboring town’s Rec teams during the summer,” Sparta Softball president Lori Rispoli said. “At the older level, our Club teams have had great success as they take on the top talent from the tri-state area.”

While speaking to the 500+ people in attendance, Rispoli stated it perfectly, “This program is about the girls and for the girls. Tonight is about celebrating all the players regardless of skill level and is a small way of thanking everyone who supports their efforts out on the diamond in 2017.”

“Sparta Girls Softball would like to thank the 50+ sponsors who without them, the night could not take place and support the program every year,” Rispoli said.

SGS proudly displays signage of all sponsors at their home field and at all SGS events. To find out more information about the Sparta Softball program, teams and tournaments, please go to
