SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School Principal Janet Ferraro has announced the September Teacher of the Month to be Shanna Behrje. Behrje is a Physical Education teacher and servers the student athletes as the school’s Athletic Trainer.
"Shanna puts her heart and soul into teaching the students of Sparta,” Interim Athletic Director Steve Stoner said.
Behrje can be found most days after school and on week-ends on the sidelines of the high school’s home games. Often she is covering several sports at once. Behrje not only takes care of injuries that occur during games, she keeps an eye on players who are healing from previous injuries, even makes sure they are properly hydrated.
Stoner also spoke about Behrje’s role as athletic trainer. “Shanna consistently can be seen moving around the athletic corner of the building trying to make sure that everyone is ready to participate in their events. The fall is a particularly tough time for Shanna has we have more sports and athletes than any other season.”
Continuing to explain Behrje’s dedication Stoner said, “In the fall Shanna is expected to be at school six or seven days a week depending on schedules. She rarely has any vacation time/time off during this period. This keeps Shanna extremely busy with the trainer duties while still trying to be at her best for the classes she is teaching. Shanna is a valuable part of Sparta High School's athletic department and phys ed department.”
