SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School baseball lost a close one to Jefferson on Monday afternoon 4-3. With a few varsity baseball alumni watching from the stands, Connor Dick started out on the mound for Sparta before turning it over to Ronan Jarvis.
Jefferson got on the board first with two runs in the second. Sparta was not able to get anyone across the plate until the third when Cole Patten made the trip.
Jefferson got one more in the fifth; a long ball carried over the left field fence helped by a steady wind blowing to the outfield. Starting the sixth inning with a two-run deficit Sparta got back in the game with Chris Murray and Eric Castorina scoring. That would be it for the day
After the game the seniors were celebrated with pizza.
Sparta has had a rough season with a record of 6-14. They will play in Vernon on Wednesday.
