SPARTA, NJ - A bleacher packed with supportive, holiday costumed fans was not enough to get Sparta High School boys basketball a win.  The Spartans lost their home opener on Friday night to Randolph 66-50. 

The teams were nearly even in the first quarter 16-15 Randolph but Randolph dominated the second quarter getting the score to 31-20 at the half. Sparta never regained that lost ground. The Spartans made a good effort in the third quarter with 14 points to Randolph’s 19 and were even for the final period with 16 points each. 

Jack Simon was the top scorer for Sparta with 15 points, Nick Lucas had 12 and Dante Joefield rounded out the top three with 10 points for the night.

The Rams’ top scorer was Andrew Fusco with 25 points including five from three-point range. 

Sparta’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday, December 21 when they will travel to Morristown for a 7 p.m. tip off.
