SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School boys lacrosse moves to the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North Group 2 tournament after taking down Jefferson 10-4 on Saturday. Playing at home Sparta’s coach Tyler Meth said possession was a key factor in the win.
Russell Eberding won 14 of 17 faceoffs and scooped up 10 ground balls.
Stelios Kroudis led the Spartan offence with four goals. Jesse West had three goals and two assists. Luke Bushey scored twice and Justin Brick contributed with one.
Beck Gozdenovich and Brendan CIna were each credited with an assist.
“Sparta’s defense was stout,” Meth said. He credited Brick, Mike Candeloro, Kevin Berlin, Austin Castorina and TJ Hurley for playing “very effective lockdown man coverage.”
Reed McCall stopped 13 Falcon shots.
Sparta is the fourth seed in the tournament and is scheduled to play number one seed Summit on Wednesday. Sparta fell to Summit early in the regular season 15-6.
Sparta boys record stands at 10-8.
