SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School boys lacrosse lost their second game of the season to Saint Peters Prep on Thursday, 12-10.
Playing on the Marauders' turf, Stelios Kroudis led the Spartan effort with three goals and two assists. Pat Milliken and Beck Gozdenovich each contributed two goals. Evan Johnson had a goal and four assists. Jesse West had a goal and three assists.
Russell Eberding had success winning 18 of 26 face offs and grabbed 12 ground balls.
Reed Mc Call, in net for Sparta, stopped 10 of the Jersey City team’s shots.
Faced with playing in a new division, one with a reputation for being the toughest division in the state, Sparta has had limited pre-season practice time. The booster club has spent more than $6,000 on securing practice facilities in other towns, funded through parent donations and fundraisers, according to parent Heidi Eberding.
The township’s turf field is not yet striped and access has been limited. The boys had just two scrimmages for pre-season tune ups.
The first game of the season was against nationally ranked Seton Hall on March 28. Sparta lost that game on the road 19-10.
Sparta will supposed to be hosting Mountain Lakes on April 7 with an 11 a.m, weather and field conditions permitting.
