SPARTA, NJ – The crowd was big on Monday for the boys lacrosse game Sparta against North Hunterdon that police were directing traffic and people had to park up the road.  They came to see the second seeded Spartans play the third ranked Lions in the Semifinal round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament.

Owen Mead had a good game with three goals and three assists.  Skyler Francisco put two in the net with an assist.  Zack Eberding, Lucas Faria and Stelios Kroudis each had one. Goalie Daniel Smith had six saves. 

It was not enough to move ahead to the final round.  Instead, Hunterdon Central will play North Hunterdon for the county championship.

Sparta Boys, now 13-2 for the season,  will go into the first round in the North Group 2 state tournament ranked second.  They will play Demarest, ranked 15, on May 15 at 5 p.m.
