SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School boys soccer team had a big win on Wednesday when they hosted cross town rivals Pope John 3-1. 

Three different Spartans scored.  Eric DaSilva, Peter DeFelice and Sean McHuge put up points.  DeFelice and McHugh also has assists.

Sparta took eight shots on Pope John goalie Alex Russo.  Sparta’s goalie Danny Dimarco stopped four.

Sparta boys won their first round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament last Saturday when they blanked Belvidere, winning 3-0.  McHugh, Luke Gasper-Markel and Chris Murray scored Sparta’s goals.    

They will host South Hunterdon on Saturday in the next round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament.  It is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

Sparta is now 6-6 for the season.
