Sparta High School Class of 2014 Headed to College and Military Service

SPARTA,NJ- Sparta High School will be represented at many of the best schools in the area and the country.  The students of the class of 2014 were accepted to every  Ivy League school and had a West Point appointment as well.

As expected there were numerous applications made to New Jersey universities and colleges.  The most popular were Caldwell with eight accepted, Fairleigh Dickenson University with 12, Monmouth with 10, Montclair State University with 28, New Jersey Institute of Technology with seven, The College of New Jersey had 17, Ramapo College of New Jersey 19, Richard Stockton had five, Rider University had 11, Rowan University 37, Rutgers University 38 total, Seton Hall University 16, William Paterson University of New Jersey 29

The Sussex County Community College had 37 students accepted and County College of Morris had 21.

The out of state schools that appeared to be most popular with the class of 2014 include:

  • Quinnipiac University 29,
  • SUNY schools 21,
  • Bloomsburg College, University of Delaware and Pennsylvania State with 20 students accepted,
  • Ithaca College University of Massachusetts, University of Rhode Island, Towson with 17,
  • Northeastern University 15,  
  • Pace University 14,
  • James Madison, Sacred Heart and Syracuse University had 13,
  • University of Scranton 14,  
  • University of Vermont accepted 10,
  • Marist with nine,
  • Temple West Virginia, York College of Pennsylvania eight
  • Villanova accepted seven
  • University of Pittsburgh six

Technical schools were popular choice with the class of 2014. Rensselaer accepted eight of our seniors.  New York Institute of Technology in Manhattan, Rochester Institute of Technology accepted six, Stevens Institute of Technology accepted 14, Syracuse University College of Engineering and Computer Science accepted four, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University accepted eight. Georgia Institute of Technology, Purdue University College of Engineering, Worchester Polytechnic University all sent letters of acceptance to Sparta High School seniors this year.

Military service is the destination for four of the seniors.  Two are committed to the United States Army, one the United States Marines, one to the United States Military Academy West Point.

Sparta High School students have been accepted to schools all over the country including Arizona State University, several schools in Florida, University of New Hampshire and schools in California, Tennessee, Michigan, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois and Texas.  University of Arkansas, Colorado Mountain College, University of Maine and University of New England will have a Sparta student on campus in the fall. 

Two students were accepted to McGill University and one to the University of Toronto, St George in Canada. 

Director of Guidance Rory Fitzgerald said, "I am extremely proud of the Class of 2014.  Their outstanding accomplishments in academics, athletics and the arts speak for themselves and I look forward to hearing great things about these students in the years to come."

JCP&L Latest Information, Free Ice and Water

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ – As of 8:47 p.m. JCP&L is reporting 12,745 customers or 22.11 percent, are without power in Sussex County.  In Sparta 2749 or 32 percent remain in the dark.
