SPARTA, NJ – It has been a strong season for the Sparta High School debate team, with victories at the Jefferson and Mount Olive tournaments.
In the Jefferson tournament, Ulysses Farr and Brendan Brusberg lead the Affirmative Team to defeat Sussex Tech, Kittatiny and Roxbury.
The Negative Team with Brent Bloomgren, Chudi Onwuasoanya, Alex Pegher and Erich Schwarzrodk “outwitted West Morris Central, Dover, Sussex Tech and Jefferson to show Spartan dominance,” said team advisor Ari Reinstein.
After the win in Jefferson the team competed in a tournament at Mount Olive High School where the Affirmative Team dominated Jefferson, Dover, Kittatiny and Sussex Tech. “An affirmative sweep, well done,” said Reinstein.
The Negative team “rocked Roxbury and smashed Sussex Tech” with two negative wins according to Reinstein.
The topic the teams are debating: The United States federal government should substantially increase its non-military exploration and/or development of the Earth’s oceans. Team members must research the topic and attend practice sessions each week.
On Feb 12 Sparta High School debate team will host the Debate championships.
