SPARTA, NJ – After a slow start to their season, the Sparta High School field hockey team shut out Morris Hills on Thursday 3-0. The three goals came from three different players, Lauren Groff, Audrey Krajicek and captain Hope Nafis.
Groff and Bella Tracy were also credited with assists. They kept the Morris Hills goalie busy with 15 shots.
This is the first win for the young team. “We lost a lot of girls,” Nafis said.
“There are a lot of young girls on the team,” Captain Jillian Van Fleet said. “We’ve been really working on chemistry.”
“That’s what made the difference in today’s game,” Nafis said. “We were passing the ball up and down in our triangle. That got us to score.”
“We were playing sides well too,” Van Fleet said. “We were working together. That got us to the win.”
The team will take their 1-3 record on the road to Vernon on Saturday with a game that begins at 10 a.m.
