CHESTER, NJ – It was a close one. The Sparta High football team was able to pull it out at the end earning a 27-21 win over West Morris High School on Friday night.
The Wolf Pack was steady with seven points each quarter while Sparta was kept from the endzone for the second and third quarter. It was a big fourth quarter that snatched back the victory from West Morris.
West Morris was first on the board.
Austin Castorina answered back for Sparta with a short run for six. Vince DeSimone was good for the extra point.
It would be nearly 30 minutes of play before Sparta would score again.
Austen Frattura threw a 58 yard pass to Tyler Szabo, then went 32 yards in the air to Colby Plotts to get the tie.
Castorina again on the short run sealed the win for Sparta. Castorina had 108 yards on the ground and four catches for 40 yards.
Frattura connected with Brendan Cina three times for 44 yards. James Hogel grabbed a 15 yard pass.
On defense, JJ Valentine was busy with three sacks and caused a fumble. Sam Bushey also earned a sack.
DeSimone went three for four on extra points.
The Spartans are now 2-1 and will play at Mendham on Friday night with a 7 p.m. kick off.
