SPARTA, NJ – The girls high school basketball team has started its winter season, the sixth under the leadership of head coach Catherine Willie. This year the team will be relying on key returning players Paige Smith, Erin Walsh, Erin Scott, Tatiana Esteva-Ingram, Emily Dilger and Brianna Falco according to Willie.
Defensively the team will look to the leadership of Walsh and Dilger ranked in the top 50 in the state for rebounds and blocked shots, according to Willie.
“We have a lot of experience in senior leadership and floor time,” Willie said.
The Spartans will also have new faces on the court. Iraland Cofrancesco, Delaney Forziati, Ellen Villapondo, Liv Bouma-Hannam, Alisa Williamson and Fait Stewart have joined the varsity team for the 2017-2018 season.
“If we can avoid injuries, we could have a very successful season,” Willie said. She is looking to bolster the team’s guard play but notes “we have experienced athletes that want to win.”
The team will also be serving the community this winter serving at a local soup kitchen.
