Sparta High School Girls Basketball Team Defeats Demarest in Quarterfinal Round

DEMAREST, NJ - The Sparta High School girls varsity basketball team won its Section 1, Group 3 quarterfinal round game over Demarest, 49-46, on Wednesday.  It was a close game all the way, with no more than a two-point margin separating the two teams at the end of each period.  Then, in the fourth period Sparta scored 17  points to Demarest's 12 for the victory.

Jamie Melville added to her record breaking season with 23 points for the night.  Meghan Boryeskne scored an impressive 18 points as well.  Emmy Silberstein put up four,  with Maggie Jent and Taryn Penna each contributing two.

Veronica and Victoria Corcoran each scored 18 for Demarest.

Thirteenth ranked Sparta will move onto the semifinal round against eighth-ranked River Dell on Friday, March 7 at 6 p.m.

The other two teams advancing to the semifinal round are Ramapo and Northern Highlands.
