Sparta High School Girls Basketball Wins Home Opener Against Randolph

SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School girls basketball team started their season with a win against Randolph 31-21, laying in their home opener on Friday.

“Our team had a great mix of experience and athletes on the floor last night,” Coach Cathy Willie said. “We played tough defense and capitalized on steals.”

Emily Dilger led the team with eleven points; five from 2-point territory and a free throw. Contributing defensively, Dilger grabbed 11 rebounds and eight steals.  .

Paige Smith had two 3-pointers and a free throw contributing seven points to the Spartan win.  She also had three rebounds

“The win was a total team effort with everyone chipping in,” Captain Erin Scott said. “Our hard work in practice was reflected.  Our team blends well together and we are excited for a great season.”

Erin Scott also added seven points to the total with a three pointer.  She had five rebounds.

Erin Walsh rounded out the scoring with six and had five rebounds. 

The girls will play in Morristown on Wednesday.
